“It’s alright it’s a stereotype, and I don’t mind if you use it. It’s alright you can say what you like, just don’t mock the music!” – Mock The Music by Children 18:3 (off of their album, ‘Children 18:3’, 2008)
Being the person I am means that my friends sometimes (more often than I probably realize) come to me for music recommendations. “Do you know any good songs for this situation” is a question I have been asked a few times over. That is why this blog post is another what I am currently listening to type of post. I have been listening to a lot of things lately that I want to share, as well as having a few friends asking me lately about new things. So here we go!
‘From The Outside’ – Hey Violet
This is by far my most listened to album of the moment. I am completely addicted and have finally converted my future sister-in-law as well! My favorite song at the moment is ‘Brand New Moves’. Though it was ‘Hoodie’ that initially got me hooked and ‘Break My Heart’ can often be heard coming from my car, ‘Brand New Moves’ is the song I keep going back to!
“Since the last time we danced I learned some brand new moves! Since the last time we kissed I learned a thing or two. Since the last time we danced I learned some brand new moves, I want to try them on you. I want to try them on you!”
‘Reputation’ – Taylor Swift
Of course the newest work from TSwift would have to make the cut! If you know me well then you know I have bought every one of Taylor’s albums on release day and immediately listened to the album in it entirety until those around me begged me to turn it off. ‘Reputation’ was no exception. I think the majority of us know ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ by now, but favorite song at the moment is ‘End Game’ and yes my deep love for Ed Sheeran may play a part in that and I really do not care.
“I want to be your end game! I want to be your first string! I want to be your A-Team! I want to be your end game!”
‘The Storm’ – ZZ Ward
The her single ‘Cannonball’ is the track she is pushing at the moment (and it is great!) and ‘Ride’ is featured on ‘Cars 3’ making it more well known, and the title track gets a lot of plays on my iPod, ‘Domino’ is definitely my favorite song on this album. This is another song I played for several people hoping someone would love it like I do and I successfully got a couple others hooked. If you have never heard ZZ Ward before I definitely recommend giving her a shot.
“One by one they fall so fast, I let them go, domino!”
‘Out Of the Dark’ – Mandisa
I am not even sorry for playing this one to the point that others should be annoyed. Every year there is always one Christian music album that is my “anthem album” of the year and ‘Out Of The Dark’ seems to be that album for me this year. Trying to narrow it down to one song that stands out to me the most is so difficult! I had a really hard 2016 and 2017 has been my year of joy and life after such a dark season and I relate so well to so many of these songs, ‘I’m Still Here’, ‘Out Of The Dark’, ‘Comeback Kid’, but for the song that hits me in the feels every single time it is for sure ‘Prove Me Wrong’.
“And I’ve read Your ways are higher, but I just don’t understand! Trying to hold onto my faith, but it’s slipping through my hands.”
‘Sit Next To Me’ – Foster The People
Off of their album ‘Sacred Hearts Club’ (which I have been listening to lately as well) comes this track that I cannot seem to get out of my head. I have probably listened to it at least once a day for the past couple months. Though I first heard the song back in July it recently found its way into my daily playlist.
“Come over here sit next to me, we can see where things go naturally.”
‘Hold On’ – Derek Hough
If you are unfamiliar with Derek Hough you need to check this song out! He is mostly known for being an amazing ballroom dancer and choreographer, but ‘Hold On’ definitely proves that he is just as talented with music. The music video for this song is emotional, but I highly recommend checking it out at well. This song was written after a family member of Derek’s committed suicide as his “what I wish I would have said” part of his healing.
“She said will anybody even know if I’m gone? I can’t take another night alone. And I said, hold on, hold on to me.”
‘Single’ – Natasha Bedingfield
This one has made the list purely for fun, but it is also reality that I have been listening to it a lot. Anyone who is living the single life understands that sometimes you just need a jam that celebrates singleness. There are a plethora of love songs, break-up songs, and “over it” songs, but not as many as I would like that celebrate living the single life.
“This is my current single status, my declaration of independence! There’s no way I’m tradin’ places!”
‘Breathe In, Breathe Out’ – Tich
Alright so this has been a song I have to belt out whenever I hear it for a few years now, but lately it has been a regular part of my rotation. Sadly the original version of it is no longer available, however the one that is is the same lyrics just more pop like and less like a power ballad.
“If you’re gonna push me, then promise you’ll break my fall!”
