“Baby if they asked me I would say I don’t even know your name. And if they asked me ‘does it change’ No, it don’t change a thing! Cause there’s something about the way you’ll love me. There’s just something about the way you’ll know me that I can’t explain enough. There’s just something about our future love!” – Future Love by Varsity Fan Club (2008)
Love is in the air! I am so excited for a few different couples in my life as weddings are coming up! In fact I have a wedding to attend next week and I am in four weddings that are coming up within the next year. Wedding planning is in full swing and I am keeping note of things I am going to want to remember for one day when I get married. Through all of this Father and I have been talking a lot about my future husband and my future marriage. Through these conversations with the Lord one thing keeps coming up, praying scripture over my Future Someone.
I think I mentioned it before, but I started praying for my husband when I was eleven -years-old. This means this man who I am not even dating, has been prayed over for the past fifteen years and counting. However consistently praying scripture for him is not something I have been in the practice of doing and I want to. I have used Scripture in prayers before, but it has not been habit. This past week I have been working on that and really trying to pray scripture of my future husband. I looked up books and blogs where other women have suggested verses to use to pray over your husband and after praying through them here is a list of the concepts and verses I am wanting to pray for this man. I am sharing this list with you all because I feel like I may help, inspire, or encourage someone.
1.) That he will live according to God’s calling on his Life – Ephesians 4:1-2 “Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love”
2.) That he will know that Christ is his Safe Place – Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.”
3.) That he will have a strong prayer life – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
4.) That he will submit his fears to the Lord – Psalm 118:6 “The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?”
5.) That he will know where his confidence comes from – Proverbs 3:25-26 “Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes; For the Lord will be your confidence And will keep your foot from being caught.”
6.) That he will have boldness – Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”
7.) That he would have a humble and teachable heart – Proverbs 15: 33 “The fear of the Lord is the instruction for wisdom,
And before honor comes humility.”
8.) That he would grow in grace – 2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.”
9.) That he would go to the Lord for guidance and wisdom – James 1:5 “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
10: That he would be quick to forgive – Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”
I have also been praying various other things for him including that Father would protect his heart and keep him from “counterfeit” relationships , that he will be open to the Lord’s leading, and that he will be developing Christ-like character.
There is something powerful and amazing about praying scripture and I am truly excited to see where Father leads me in this.
